What to do in a weight loss plateau

The Metabolism Stall

Have you ever started a weight loss journey, were happy with the rate you were losing weight, then all of a sudden, the scale didn’t budge?

You might’ve been thinking “it was probably the extra serving of potatoes I ate the other night” or “was it because I skipped my workout on Friday?”

Let me be the first to tell you – it most likely was not an extra scoop of potatoes or one missed workout. You were hitting a plateau.

What NOT to do when this happens: blame yourself, give up, and feel like a failure. A weight plateau is not your fault. This actually occurs as our body’s defense mechanism against nature.

See, back when we were hunters and gatherers, a decreased intake of food meant that there was little food available. The body slowed down it’s metabolic function to preserve energy and fat as a way to survive when food was scarce.

Thousands of years later, our bodies STILL do this when we decrease the amount of food we consume. I told you, it’s not your fault!

Let’s dive into some of the reasons why this happens and what you can do about it.

  1. YOU’RE EATING TOO LITTLE

Eating a low-calorie diet for weight loss WILL work at first. But once you hit that plateau, it’s time to switch it up a bit. The only way to tell your body that it’s safe and there is food very much available is to EAT.

Yes, we are telling you to eat more for weight loss.

But this is not a free-for-all.

Nourishing your body with all the nutrients and energy it NEEDS is the most effective way to end this battle with your body. The Key3 light structure is successful for getting you the right nourishment and energy. Try out some recipes here.

  1. YOU’VE DECREASED YOUR METABOLISM

This is what happens when you don’t eat enough. Your body senses a decrease in intake and tries to preserve energy (as explained before – it thinks there is no food available and you need to hunt for it).

This is the defensive mechanism we spoke about, and it’s how your body survives in times of starvation. This is why you need to eat MORE of the foods that nourish you and let your body know that it is safe.

This is a balancing act between having too much food to still lose weight and too little food that your body is stagnant.

  1. YOU NEED TO SWITCH IT UP.

This goes back to our bodies not loving change, and the solution here is to shock it into something different. This goes for both eating and exercise. If you’ve been running 5 miles a week, try stopping cold turkey and lift small weights for a week instead. If you’ve been doing oatmeal for breakfast every day, try a Key3 Smoothie instead and see what happens.

There are a ton of little metabolism hacks (like timing, exercises, supplements) I want you to try before you just give up. You WILL power through this plateau.

Because really, this isn’t about whether or not the diet you’re on is “the right one”,  this is about whether or not your metabolism is working at its best so it can do the work of weight loss for you!

If your metabolism is functioning optimally, you will absolutely get into the body you want!
