High Protein Breakfast

With the morning hustle and bustle, getting in a healthy breakfast can be difficult. What breakfast is even best for nurturing your gut health, hormones, and metabolism?

When it comes to breakfast, one thing to keep in mind: protein!

Starting your day with a high-protein breakfast is a great way to set the tone for the day and set yourself up for success. Beginning your day with around 20-30 grams of protein can help reduce cravings throughout the day, allowing you to be more mindful with your food choices.

Enter: The Key3 Smoothie

One option for a high-protein breakfast is what I like to call the Key3 smoothie. This is a smoothie that contains lean protein, fiber, and healthy fats. This combination is great because it helps calm hunger hormones, balances blood sugar, and boosts metabolism. Calming hunger hormones and balancing blood sugar can help prevent that afternoon slump, keeping you satiated. Having a good protein powder on hand that you can add to a morning smoothie can be an easy and refreshing way to start the day. One scoop contains about 20 grams of protein, so opt for one to two scoops. For those who don’t like protein powder, Greek yogurt can also be a great addition to smoothies.

For Non-Smoothie Lovers

Another easy and high protein breakfast option is egg muffins. Whip up a batch of egg muffins in advance, and pop them in the microwave in the morning. While each egg contains around 6 grams of protein, further boost the protein content by adding in smoked salmon. Or, consider an egg and lentil scramble with your favorite vegetables for a protein and fiber filled meal.

Other quick ideas include toast with avocado and smoked salmon or toast with avocado, 3 hard-boiled eggs, and a sprinkle of hemp seeds. For an even quicker breakfast, opt for a cup of cottage cheese, which contains 25 grams of protein, with some blueberries. To up the protein further, sprinkle hemp seeds on top. Hemp seeds are a great addition to many dishes to increase the protein content because they won’t change the consistency of the foods and don’t need to be grinded; all you have to do is sprinkle some on top!

Next time you’re pressed for breakfast options, remember to get in some protein and return to these basics.
