How to be confident in a bikini this summer
Summer is in full swing with it’s hot temperatures, raging humidity, neighborhood barbecues, and pool days. While summer is (in our opinion) the best part of the year, it can also be super stressful. Why? Because of bikinis!
Do you hate wearing a swimsuit? Not going to lie, it can be stressful and overwhelming. Lots of people hate wearing bikinis and swimsuits out of their own house because of a lack of confidence in their body.
Something that might help with your confidence is body positivity. This term has been thrown around a lot in social media recently, but what does it even mean to us?
The movement is focused on reclaiming your health, practicing self-care, cultivating self-love, declaring your own beauty, and building a community to live your best life.
Everyone can learn something from being body positive – it’s a journey that lasts a lifetime but can give you so many rewards (confidence, love, friendships) along the way.
Getting involved with body positive people might change your outlook on a lot of society’s messages (one being that you shouldn’t feel confident in a swimsuit unless you look like a front page supermodel!)
Besides body positivity, there are ways on how to feel your best in a swimsuit without having to fall into some crash diet!
HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO GET YOU FEELING BIKINI READY:
- Know what makes you feel most confident and comfortable – play around with different colors, patterns, textures, and silhouettes until you find a few that make you feel like the best version of yourself.
- Are you worried about your chest feeling supported? Look for tops with thicker straps and more coverage! Want to emphasize your curves? Look for higher rise bottoms! There are TONS of different swimsuits these days – full pieces with deep necklines, low backs, high rise cuts, or bikinis with low or high coverage, tankinis, even swim tops with sleeves. This experimenting will allow you to find what type of swimsuit looks best on you – it will make you feel comfortable the next time you go to the pool or beach. Personally, I love trying bold, loud colors – it forces confidence even when I don’t have 100% confidence in myself.
- Surround yourself with body positive content. Find positive influences, whether that’s online through social media or in person with your friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances, and work on constantly feeding yourself positive thoughts. If you aren’t positive, how can the people around you be?
- Know that no body is perfect, so we shouldn’t strive for perfection!! Most “perfect” bodies that we see out there are cropped, filtered, and touched up so don’t compare yourself to what you see online or in magazines.
- Confidence goes so far beyond the size of your body and how a bikini looks on you. Only the shallow people out there will judge you by the size of your body or how “good” you look in a two peice – so why even care what these people think?!
We get that it’s hard to shut off the negative thoughts, so also don’t be hard on yourself if this “body positive” mindset doesn’t come overnight. Be gentle with yourself and just slowly move in that direction with some of the tips above….and say it with us – EVERY BODY IS A BIKINI BODY!
YOU are perfect just the way you are! Know that you look fantastic no matter what and rock the swimsuit we all know you can.
